ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office of Pakistan has welcomed the announcement regarding United States (US) and Taliban agreement on signing a peace deal for Afghanistan on February 29.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the FO spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that Pakistan looks forwards to the signing of the agreement as the country has facilitated this process and contributed to its progress.
The statement said, “Pakistan believes the agreement will pave the way for the next step of intra-Afghan negotiations,” adding, “We hope Afghan parties will now seize this historic opportunity and work out a comprehensive and political settlement for durable peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.”
The FO spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s support for a peaceful, stable, united, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan.
Earlier today, United States (US) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Afghan Taliban have confirmed to hold successful dialogues leading to a peace deal for ending the decades-long war in Afghanistan.
