RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Habib Tajik has said that police will register first information reports (FIRs) under Section 182 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the complaints seeking registration of false FIRs.
Section 182 of the PPC provides for a maximum penalty of two years in prison or fine or both in case a person deliberately registers a false case.
Talking to media representatives in Rawalpindi, RPO said citizens shot not lodge FIRs directly after any crime, adding that report should be confined to the daily police report register.
He warned and said that no negligence will be tolerated in the registration of the fake FIRs. Earlier, a court has to order police to proceed against a person under section 182; in case a complaint has been brought to the court by the police or another person.
The section is, however, non-cognizable, i.e. the police cannot automatically register a case under Section 182.
