ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh will chair a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) today to discuss a six-point agenda which includes sugar, tax issues, the Road to Makkah project, and pilgrimage issues.
The ECC meeting is expected to approve duties and tax exemptions on commercial imports of sugar, while Saudi Arabia officials will also be given tax exemptions on imports for the Road to Makkah project.
The ECC meeting will consider proposals to abolish holding tax from 5.5 percent to 0.25 percent and value-added tax from 3 percent, while important issues related to Pakistani pilgrims will also be considered.

The meeting will approve the immigration and customs clearance of Pakistani pilgrims at local airports. A proposal to provide facilities at Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar airports in the style of Islamabad will also be considered.
Earlier, a meeting of the ECC chaired by Finance Advisor Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh on 9th December last year was adjourned without giving any reason. A seven-point agenda for the 9th December ECC meeting was also issued which was adjourned till late night on 8th December 2020 without giving any reasons.
