Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered the first case in connection with the Greece boat tragedy, which claimed the lives of several Pakistani nationals.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the case was lodged based on a statement from the father of Muhammad Sufyan, one of the deceased victims.
The father claimed his son was on board the ill-fated vessel along with others. “Sufyan was transported from Faisalabad Airport to Egypt and then to Libya, where he was subjected to torture at a safe house,” he alleged in the statement.
The First Information Report (FIR) named Qamar Zaman, Usman, Asif, and Sofia among others, as the individuals who received PKR 2.4 million from the victim’s family for sending him abroad.
Reports indicate that human traffickers have adopted new methods to evade coast guards and radar systems. They now use smaller boats instead of large trawlers, making detection more challenging.
The boat capsized in open waters near Greece a few days ago. Authorities have confirmed the deaths of four Pakistanis, while 47 were rescued.
