KARACHI: After the alleged financial irregularities, the Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Lyari has also been accused of harassment. PPP Sindh Assembly member Shazia Sanghar lodged a written complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle against the latter.
According to details, FIA Cyber Crime Circle Karachi has started investigation on the written complaint. Dozens of complaints have been lodged in NAB and Anti-Corruption Department against the Vice Chancellor for financial irregularities in Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Lyari on which separate investigations are underway. However, Sindh government re-appointed Akhtar Baloch as VC of the university after completion of his three-year term before meeting criteria set for the job in the new advertisement.
Akhtar Baloch had taken personal revenge from two faculty members who disagreed with the him by suspending them, including a woman. Meanwhile, Sindh Assembly member from Pakistan People’s Party Shazia Karim Sanghar also accused Baloch of harassment. The MPA formally submitted a written request to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The female member of Sindh Assembly told FIA Cyber Crime in a written request that as a member of Sindh Assembly, she is a member of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University syndicate and had lodged several complaints against the Vice Chancellor and alleged irregularities in the affairs of the university. She also pointed out the misappropriation of funds in the meeting of the said syndicate against Vice Chancellor Akhtar Baloch, after which she was harassed.
According to Sindh Assembly member Shazia Karim Sanghar, the vice chancellor has started harassing her from his personal number through WhatsApp which was ignored at the beginning. She has lodged a written complaint against the Vice Chancellor under the PICA Act. The FIA has started an investigation against the Vice Chancellor on the complaint of a female lawmaker of Sindh Assembly.
Following the FIA’s request, a broadcast message was issued by Dr. Akhtar Baloch stating that if any unwanted message was received from his social media account, it should be ignored as his WhatsApp account was hacked and more than one person received nasty messages on which it was decided to contact both the personalities during which the female member’s personal secretary was contacted.

In this regard, MPA Shazia Sanghar alias Shazia Omar’s personal secretary Shabbir, when contacted, said that he had given WhatsApp messages to the FIA that were received on the number of MPA, whereas such messages had never come before. However, despite repeatedly contacting Vice Chancellor Dr Akhtar Baloch on both his numbers, he did not answer the phone, after which he was sent questionnaire to take his response but he did not responded.
Meanwhile, IT experts and former FIA officials said that Akhtar Baloch’s explanation after the petition made the matter more dubious while the harassed woman herself, being a syndicate member, continued to raise voice against the Vice Chancellor’s financial irregularities. The number of WhatsApp hacks of professionals of this level in the country is almost non-existent. If WhatsApp was hacked, were messages forwarded to the same woman or to other people? This needs to be investigated.
