LAHORE: Former Punjab information minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan has said that he will work on prison reforms in consultation with religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel.
During a meeting with religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel, Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, the provincial minister for prisons, said that the release of prisoners on parole, appeals for mercy, and soft policies on family visits were the government’s priorities, he said.
On this occasion, Chohan inquired about the well-being and health of Maulana Tariq Jameel while Maulana congratulated Chohan on receiving the portfolio of prisons.
Maulana Tariq Jameel advised the Provincial Minister for Prisons on the rights of prisoners in Islam and the duties of the state. Fayyaz said that Islam gives self-respect, education, mental and physical health, and religious freedom to all prisoners.
A few months ago, Prime Minister Imran Khan praised the services of prominent religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel for his public awareness campaign against the coronavirus.
Maulana Tariq Jameel called on the Prime Minister. During the meeting, PM Imran Khan said that the cooperation of scholars is needed to deal with the epidemic of coronavirus.
