Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman on Wednesday refuted reports suggesting his retirement, expressing confidence in making a comeback within a month.
Speaking on a podcast shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on social media, Zaman reminisced about his fond memories of the 2017 Champions Trophy and reiterated his love for ODI cricket.
“My only focus was to recover from my illness and play in the Champions Trophy,” he stated.
He revealed that although doctors had advised him to rest, he resumed training earlier than recommended. “When I suffered an injury during the opening match of the 2025 Champions Trophy, I couldn’t control my emotions,” he admitted.
Sharing a personal moment, he added, “My son asked me if I was in pain. After the match against New Zealand, I realized my tournament was over.”
Reflecting on Pakistan’s performance, Zaman expressed regret over not being able to contribute. “I believe things could have been different if I had opened the innings against New Zealand. I even approached the umpire to see if there was a possibility of me stepping in,” he said.
