2 dead as factory roof collapses in Karachi’s Shershah area

KARACHI: Two labourers were dead as a portion of a factory collapsed on Monday in Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) area of Karachi.

The incident occurred near Siemens Chowrangi in Shershah area where a factor’s roof collapsed, leading to several workers being trapped under the rubble.

Rescue teams reached the site of the incident and two labourers have been pulled out of the incident, while four others were injured.

They have provided medical aid and shifted to a hospital. Police, Rangers and Edhi officials have reached the site of the incident.

A police officer said the building was in dilapidated condition and the remaining portion may collapse anytime soon. He said the incident occurred at lunchtime and most workers had already left the factory.

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) had declared the structure dangerous for living.
