A video from 2021 featuring podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia in tears after receiving a positive COVID-19 diagnosis is being misrepresented on social media as an expression of regret following backlash and police intervention regarding his controversial joke on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube program, India’s Got Latent.
Allahbadia, who is recognized for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, along with Raina and 30 other individuals linked to the show, were charged by the Maharashtra Cyber Police on February 12, 2024.
The police have cited Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, among other allegations, for purportedly employing ‘obscene and foul language’ during the broadcast.
The First Information Report (FIR) includes the names of hosts, judges, participants, and other contributors, with the Assam police also filing an FIR related to the matter.
During the episode, Allahbadia posed a provocative question to a contestant: ‘Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?’
This remark ignited controversy, leading to significant criticism directed at the podcaster for his use of ‘vulgar’ language and prompting calls for the show’s cancellation.
A 15-second clip circulating on X depicts Allahbadia in distress, stating, “I am feeling bad because all work has closed down, I feel damn guilty, the team got exposed because of me.” This video is being shared with a caption in Hindi that, when translated, conveys, “I feel bad because of that. Because of me the whole work stopped… ****…Hello @BeerBicepsGuy aka Ranveer Allahabadi… one should not feel bad because work has stopped. But you should feel bad because you looked at the bed of the mother who gave birth to you.”
