Former prime minister late Benazir Bhutto’s eldest daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto, who was engaged to the son of a Dubai-based businessman, Mahmood Chaudhry in November 2020, is set to tie the knot with him later this month. Weeklong functions had started for the wedding of the daughter of former president Asif Ali Zardari.
Bakhtawar Bhutto
Born on January 25, 1990, to Benazir and Zardari, Bakhtawar was the first child born to a sitting female prime minister.
Bakhtawar, who holds a Masters Honors in English from the University of Edinburgh, is an education enthusiast and actively works for Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST).
Her efforts played a significant role in the establishment of the Stem Cell Research Laboratory at its Karachi campus. Being a staunch believer in living life to the fullest, she is an avid adventurist who’s fond of paragliding, archery and other adventure sports.
Bakhtawar also established her own non-governmental organization known as ‘Save the Flood and Disaster Victims Organization’ for early recovery response to those who were impacted by natural calamities in Pakistan.
Who’s Mahmood Choudhary?
Dubai-based Choudhary is the son of Mohammad Younas Choudhary and Begum Suriya Choudhary and manages a diversified business. The family belonged from Lahore Pakistan.
Younas migrated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 1973, where he established businesses in the construction and transport industry. Mahmood, the last born of five siblings, was born on July 28, 1988, in the city of Abu Dhabi.
He completed his primary schooling in Abu Dhabi and secondary schooling in the United Kingdom. Mahmood further went on to study law at the University of Durham.
Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari had revealed details of her engagement with Mehmood Chaudhry. In a recent social media post, she shared a sentimental and heartwarming detail regarding the engagement ring she gave to her fiance.
“It’s A Ring Story: my mother had her father’s wedding ring copied and made for my father when they got married – I had the same ring duplicated and made for Mahmood Chaudhry,” she posted.
Engagement ceremony
Earlier, in a simple and splendid engagement ceremony, the couple exchanged rings amid celebratory hollers and claps from the guests, who included some senior leaders of PPP, businessmen, real estate tycoons, famous lawyers, a few legislators and close relatives at Bilawal House Karachi in November 2020.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, who was in self-isolation after contracting coronavirus at that time, had joined the engagement event through a video link.
There was a bounty of speculation surrounding Bakhtawar’s engagement dress and when she uploaded her engagement pictures with her fiancé, under a magnificent pink bougainvillea tree, fashion enthusiasts were swiftly able to discern that her tea pink outfit, with a lavishly embroidered shawl draped over it, was the work of Nida Azwer, a famous designer.
Wedding schedule
The schedule of Bakhtawar’s wedding with the Mahmood Chaudhry was announced by the Bilawal House on 23 January.
According to the schedule, a Milad function will be held on Saturday (January 24) at Bilawal House Karachi while a simple Mehndi ceremony is planned for 27 January.
Bakhtawar’s nikah with her fiancé Mahmood Chaudhry would be held on 29 January and the function of ‘baraat’ would take place the next day on January 30. Almost 300 guests have been invited by the Bhutto family.
The spokesman of Bilawal House said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be suspending his political activities for a week to participate in his sister’s wedding. A limited number of people — including the city’s bigwigs, business magnates, politicians, and lawyers — would participate in the event.
