KARACHI: Pakistan have been whitewashed in a Test series on home soil after England beat it by 8 wickets in the third Test in Karachi on Tuesday.
After Pakistan scored 304 runs in first innings and 216 in their second innings, England responded with 354 runs in their first innings and chasing a modest target of 167 runs, the visitors reached home for the loss of two wickets.
Despite losing his opening partner, Zak Crawley, after an explosive start of 87 runs, Ben Duckett continued the assault on Pakistan bowlers with a swashbuckling innings of 82 runs in 78 balls.
Crawley scored run-a-ball 41 with the help of seven fours. Abrar Ahmed claimed two wickets for Pakistan in the second innings.
For scoring 468 runs in five innings with the help of three centuries, Harry Brook was named Player of the Series.
After being defeated by England, Pakistan are officially knocked out of the World Test Championship final race now. This is the first time in 75 years that Pakistan have been whitewashed 3-0 in a three-match Test series on home soil. This is also first time Pakistan has lost four consecutive Test matches at home.
Pakistan had only lost 2 out of 44 Tests in Karachi in their history, they had one of the best records by any team at a home venue. England just became the first team to defeat Pakistan in Karachi more than once.
Between 1962 and 1995, Pakistan lost only 4 out of 85 Tests on home soil. That’s a period of 33 years! In the last nine months, Pakistan have lost 4 out of 4 Tests on home soil.
It may be recalled that in 2012 and 2014, Pakistan whitewashed both England and Australia in home Test series. Eight years later, Pakistan have lost back-to-back home Test series against them.
After Moen Ali and Adil Rashid England got a new spinner in Rehan Ahmed, who became the youngest debutant in men’s Test history to take five wickets in a single inning.
Babar Azam becomes the first Pakistan captain to lose four Test matches on home soil in a calendar year.
