The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is currently investigating Pakistani cricketer Usman Khan over a potential breach of his contract.
Amidst reports on ESPNCricinfo, the ECB is thoroughly examining Usman Khan’s recent declaration of intent to play for Pakistan, scrutinizing potential breaches not only with the UAE board but also with the white-ball leagues where he participated as a local player, such as the ILT20 and the T10.
A decision on this matter is expected within the next fortnight, with potential repercussions for Usman, including possible prohibition from league cricket in the UAE.
Furthermore, if contractual breaches are confirmed, it could impact the validity of Usman’s work permit in the UAE, which he utilized to meet residency requirements for eligibility to represent the UAE in international cricket, a criterion he has yet to fulfill with 14 months remaining.
Usman maintains that he has not violated any contract, citing a termination clause with a 30-day notice period.
Reportedly, he is prepared for any penalties imposed by the ECB, expressing his strong desire to represent Pakistan, particularly after receiving an invitation from the PCB following the PSL.
The PCB has confirmed Usman’s desire to represent Pakistan, leading to his recent selection to join the Pakistan squad, currently undergoing training with the Pakistan military as part of a PCB initiative to enhance player fitness. Usman joined the squad on Sunday evening following his selection this Monday.
