SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced that he is awaiting the Pakistani government’s approval to launch Starlink, a satellite internet service, in the country.
The conversation unfolded on X (formerly Twitter) when Pakistani user Sanam Jamali urged Musk to bring Starlink to Pakistan, emphasizing its potential to transform internet connectivity and create new opportunities. Musk responded, stating that the launch hinges on the government’s clearance.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) later confirmed ongoing discussions with Starlink about granting a satellite service license. According to PTA officials, the talks are in their initial stages, with technical requirements under review. The National Space Agency is also evaluating the proposal under Pakistan’s national space policy.
Several technical factors, such as bandwidth, uplinking, and gateway compatibility, must be addressed before the license can be issued. The PTA emphasized that this regulatory process applies to all foreign satellite service providers.
Starlink, a SpaceX initiative, aims to provide global high-speed internet access via a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). With low latency and high-speed capabilities, Starlink is especially beneficial for remote or underserved areas lacking traditional internet infrastructure.
