Twenty-seven eco-friendly electric buses are set to become operational on two routes in Lahore later this month. The buses will serve the route from Canal Road and Railway Station to RA Bazaar.
Punjab Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi announced on Monday that the electric buses will arrive at Karachi Port on January 15, six days ahead of schedule. Speaking to APP, he said that Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the receipt of the buses this week.
The first phase will see the electric buses operating on two designated routes. Dr. Qazi shared that the buses, sourced from China, will reach Lahore on January 21. Following an unveiling ceremony, they will officially begin operations on January 31.
The transport secretary highlighted that the buses are expected to remain operational for 12 years. Each bus costs Rs. 88 million, bringing the total investment for the 27 buses to Rs. 2.46 billion.
