As polling for the general elections of 2024 commences across Pakistan, all eyes are especially on certain constituencies in the political arena, where arch-rivals are competing against each other. Tough competitions are anticipated in these constituencies in today’s elections.
NA-130 Lahore:
In this constituency of the provincial capital of Punjab, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) head and the expected next Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Dr. Yasmin Rashid, senior PTI leader, are face to face.
PML-N remains confident as NA-130 remains a stronghold of the party. From 2002 to 2018, Nawaz Sharif cliched the area multiple times.
In previous years, Dr. Yasmin Rashid faced blow thrice in the same NA-130, while this time, she is contesting polls from jail. In 2018, Dr Yasmin was a close second to PML-N candidate Waheed Alam Khan as she managed to secure 105,857 votes.
NA-119 Lahore:
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz Sharif is contesting the election from this seat while the other strong candidate from this constituency is Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed (PTI) Shehzad Farooq.
In the general elections of 2018, PML-N’s Ali Pervaiz Malik won with 113,265 votes, while PTI’s Jamshed Iqbal Cheema secured the second spot.
The total population of the constituency is 916,577, while 520,829 are registered voters. Of them, 277,172 are male and 243,657 are female.
NA-122 Lahore:
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafique and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed (PTI) Latif Khosa are face-to-face on this seat and close competition is expected between the two.
In the general elections of 2018, PTI founder Imran Khan won with 84,313 votes, while PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique secured the second spot.
Later in by-polls, Saad Rafique secured the victory on this seat as Imran Khan had vacated it because of victory on more than one seat.
The total population of the constituency is 953,104, while 570,537 are registered voters. Of them, 295,487 are male and 275,050 are female.
NA-54 Rawalpindi:
As many as 30 candidates, including 21 independents, are contesting the general elections for 54 Rawalpindi-III, however, the real competition is between Ghulam Sarwar Khan and Chaudhary Nisar. Sarwar belongs to IPP and also has the support of PML-N, while Nisar is an independent candidate.
NA-47 Islamabad:
More than 35 candidates, mostly independents, are taking part in elections from NA-47 Islamabad II. Top contenders included PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, PTI-baked independent candidate Muhammad Shoaib Shaheen, PPP’s Syed Sibt ul Haider Bukhari, and JIP’s Choudhary Muhammad Kashif.
A close competition is expected on this seat between Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of PML- N and PTI baked, Muhammad Shoaib Shaheen.
The total population of the constituency stands at 800,692. Over 433,202 registered voters, including 227,175 male and 206,027 female.
NA-127 Lahore:
Pakistan People Party(PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is a candidate from this constituency and A high-voltage clash is expected between him and PML-N stalwart Attaullah Tarar. PTI-backed Zaheer Abbas Khokhar is also a strong candidate for this seat.
The total registered voters in this constituency are 527,044 – 273,014 males and 254,030 females.
