ISLAMABAD: At least eight workers were injured after several officials of Capital Development Agency’s (CDA) Anti-Encroachment Department raided stalls of vegetable sellers in Islamabad’s Sector G-9-2.
According to details, more than 30 CDA officials armed with sticks thrashed the vegetable sellers and took away fruits and vegetables worth about Rs. 800,000, as well as over Rs. 400,000 in cash.
During the operation, almost eight workers sustained major injuries and were later shifted to the nearby hospital for medical treatment. The vendors, in this regard, claimed that the CDA officials receive a monthly bribe for setting up the stalls in Sector G-9-2.
“However, despite receiving a bribe, not only CDA officials raided our stalls but also took away our vegetables, fruits and cash,” they maintained. Eyewitnesses have informed that the officers started beating all the vendors with sticks as soon as they arrived.
The vendors have also filed an application with the federal police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the CDA officials, but the employees are pressuring for reconciliation.
The vendors have appealed to the higher authorities to take notice of the CDA’s action and demanded to return the valuables and cash.
