ISLAMABAD: Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet has approved release of 190,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Utility Stores Corporation to ensure smooth supply of the commodity across Pakistan.
The ECC, which met in Islamabad on Thursday with Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin in the chair, was apprised that 90,000 metric tons of wheat has already been provided as an interim arrangement.
ECC also approved allocation of 300,000 metric tons of wheat to Azad Kashmir, out of which 140,000 metric tons of the commodity has already been released.
It approved a Technical Supplementary Grant amounting to 6.4 billion rupees in favour of Cabinet Division for Special Technology Zones Authority during the current fiscal year.
In the last meeting, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet had approved the summary to import 550,000 MT of wheat for the FY2021-22.
Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin presided over the meeting of ECC. The summary was presented by the Ministry of national food security and research for awarding the 5th international tender of wheat.
The committee had also approved the summary presented by the Ministry of Interior for Technical Supplementary Grant amounting to Rs 83.3 million for procuring services from NADRA regarding the project for automation of Power of Attorney (POA) for Overseas Pakistanis.
The ECC accorded approval with the direction that the ministry of foreign affairs and the interior ministry might hold a joint consultative session to work out modalities in that regard.
