ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) today (Friday) has approved an increase in power tariff for K-Electric consumers, as the metropolis continues to experience prolonged power outages.
According to details, the decision was taken by the ECC meeting chaired by Advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Earlier, K-Electric has applied for an increase in power tariffs.
In this regard, the economic committee approved an increase of up to Rs 2.89 per unit in the tariff for K-Electric consumers. The tariff increases will be made in the form of quarterly adjustments.
The development comes as the people of Karachi are facing prolonged power outages of up to 12 hours. K-Electric has cited a fuel supply shortage for unscheduled load shedding.
However, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) have denied K-Electric’s claims stating that sufficient gas and oil supply is being provided to the power company.
