Tremors of a 5.9 magnitude earthquake were felt today in various parts of the country, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Malakand, and Abbottabad, as reported by national media.
According to details, tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mardan, Upper Dir, Haripur, Khanpur, Taxila, Chiniot, and surrounding areas. Due to the intensity of the tremors, people recited the Kalma Tayyaba and rushed out of their homes and offices.
As reported by national media, tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Rawalakot and surrounding areas in Azad Kashmir. The earthquake was felt in Khyber, Sharqpur, Hassan Abdal, Firozwala, and Chitral as well. In addition, tremors were experienced in Faisalabad, Pind Dadan Khan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Khushab.
The seismic center stated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale. The depth of the earthquake was 94 kilometers, and its epicenter was the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. Panic spread across different cities due to the earthquake; however, no loss of life has been reported so far.
Notably, this is the second earthquake in the past week to hit several cities across the country, including Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, spreading fear and panic throughout the nation. On April 12, just seven days ago, earthquake tremors were felt in several cities, including Islamabad.
The earthquake that occurred on Saturday terrified the people in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Chiniot, Attock, Hassan Abdal, Buner, Swat, Lakki Marwat, Lower Dir, Mohmand, Malakand, Shangla, Shabqadar, and surrounding areas, where tremors were also felt. The earthquake’s intensity was 5.5, and its depth was 12 kilometers.
