MIRPUR: An earthquake has jolted Mirpur and adjoining areas of Azad and Jammu Kashmir (A&JK) with 4.4-magnitude injuring at least 53 people on Thursday.
The earthquake struck Mirpur and adjacent areas along with Jhelum and Sheikhupura. People came out of their homes, offices, educational institutions and other buildings in panic.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake is the part of series of aftershocks following Tuesday’s earthquake which jolted parts of Punjab, KPK, and AJ&K.

In which at least 37 people lost their lives while 160 received severe that rattled A&JK. The earthquake had completely damaged 270 houses whereas 2709 buildings were partially destroyed.
The earthquake leveled homes and shops and split open roads in an area between the towns of Jhelum and Mirpur. It spread panic amongst locals, although no loss of life and property was reported from any area.
Earlier on Tuesday, an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 jolted parts Punjab, KPK, AJK, and adjoining areas. It was originated 12 kilometers away from Jhelum while its depth was 10 kilometers within the ground.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan announced that the federal government would entirely compensate for the losses suffered by people of Azad Kashmir in the devastating earthquake.
