KARACHI: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ali Raza of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was killed in a targeted attack near Karachi’s Karimabad area on Sunday evening.
DSP Raza, serving as the DSP CTD Investigation, was seriously injured when unknown assailants opened fire on him. He succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Following the incident, the Sindh Home Minister directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central and the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) CTD to submit detailed reports.
Moreover, the Minister ordered the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack.
Pakistan government recently announced the launch of a “reinvigorated” national counter-terrorism campaign to “eradicate extremism and terrorism from the country.”
The campaign is launched amid an escalating wave of terrorism, which has primarily targeted security forces in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Balochistan provinces in recent years.
According to an annual security report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed 1,524 violence-related fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023, marking a record six-year high.
