KARACHI: Several suspended members of the People’s Labour Union in District Municipal Committee (DMC) East are involved in illegal activities on behalf of the union.
The union has warned to take legal action if the suspended members do not stop their activities. The union has released a list of all the members and office-holders and said that all decisions are taken mutually by all stakeholders. The order dated May 2019 was issued by Directorate of Labour, Government of Sindh.
The union’s Chief Patron Abdul Rasheed Mangi and Vice-Chairman Muhammad Ashraf Baltistani were suspended in September 2020 for violations of the code of conduct. The union had received numerous complaints but both individuals failed to address their concerns. On 4th September, both were suspended after failing to reply to multiple show-causes notices issued to them.
However, it has come to light that both are working for personal vested interests while using the union’s name. The union said that they do not endorse their actions will have distanced themselves from them. It also said that they have no relation with Mansoor who claims to be a member of the union.
A case has been filed in the Sindh Labour Appellant Tribunal calling for the elections of the president of People’s Labour Union DMC East. In the verdict announced on March 9, the Registrar Trade Union was instructed to hold the election for the president which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
