LAHORE / PESHAWAR/ GHOTKI: Dense fog enveloped the plains of the country, including most parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces, paralysing routine life and disrupting road, rail and air traffic.
According to details gathered by MM News, the flight operations at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and Multan Airport were badly affected due to adverse weather condition as several incoming flights were diverted to other airports while outgoing flights were either delayed or cancelled.
The thick fog has also badly affected the flow of road traffic in several cities. According to a Motorway spokesperson, the Motorway M1 Section from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Rashakai Interchange in KP, Motorway M2 from Lahore to Kot Momin, Lahore-Multan Motorway M3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, Motorway M4 from Shershah to Abdul Hakim, Motorway M5 from Shershah to Hazirpir and Motorway M11 from Lahore to Sambrial have been closed for all kind of traffic.
The Motorway police have appealed the drivers to use Grand Trunk (GT) Road for travelling. They have also urged the drivers to drive slowly and switch on fog lights. The Motorway police have also requested the people to stay home and avoid unnecessary travelling. Dense fog has also disrupted traffic at several places in the province at the National Highway due to low visibility.
Meanwhile, Met Department said cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very cold in upper parts during the next 12 hours. However, rain and light snow over the mountains is expected at isolated places in north and western Balochistan.
It said dense foggy conditions are likely to continue over plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh. Frost with fog is likely to occur at isolated places in Pothohar region and Kashmir during morning hours.Â
