KARACHI: Several parts of the country including Karachi are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday (today) as the death toll increases after monsoon lashed various part of Pakistan.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued its report regarding the loss of life and property caused by the recent monsoon rains.
According to the reports, as many as 76 people have lost their lives and 133 others sustained injuries due to the heavy rains across the country since June 25. This deaths includes 15 women and 31 children,
Nine people have lost their lives and eight others were injured in the heavy rains across the country in the last 24 hours. The highest number of deaths was reported in Punjab at 48. There were 20 deaths reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5 from Balochistan and three from Azad Kashmir.
The report said that 78 houses have so far been damaged as torrential rain continued to play havoc across the country. It expressed fear of urban flooding due to heavy rains in different cities of the country.
On the other hand, Karachi received light showers to heavy rain in different parts of the city which is likely to continue till July 10. There was heavy rain reported in Sachal Goth, Sohrab Goth, Airport, North Karachi, Malir, Saudabad, Model Colony, and surrounding areas.
There was heavy to moderate rain in Shahrah-e-Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Safoora Chowrangi, Surjani Town, North Karachi, Ayesha Manzil, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad. Rain was also recorded in Landhi, Korangi, and Ibrahim Hyderi. The meteorological department sais that rainfall will continue intermittently on Sunday and the city is expressed to 40 to 50 mm of rain.
According to NDMA, Karachi, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Badin, and Shaheed Benazirabad are likely to experience thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on Sunday.
It said there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in north/northeastern Punjab including Lahore, Sialkot and Narowal with a high or very high river flows in Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and its associated Nullahs — Bhimber, Aik, Deg, Palkhu and Basanter — are expected.
It added that thunderstorms and rainfall is expected in northeastern Balochistan including Sibbi, Zhob, Kohlu, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Loralai, Dera Bugti and Lasbelam, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Bannu, DI Khan, Malam Jabba, Balakot.
