QUETTA: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has killed nine alleged terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire on Friday night in Mastung district of Balochistan.
The law enforcement agency conducted an operation in Roshi area of Mastung after receiving a tipoff over the presence of terrorists in the area. According to reports, the militants opened fire on the CTD officials, who responded effectively and in turn kill 9 terrorists.
The law enforcement agency also recovered a large number of weapons from the militants including nine Kalashnikov rifles, 20kg of explosive material, prima cord, detonator, and RPG rockets. The suspects were allegedly planning terrorism in Balochistan, the CTD spokesperson said.
Earlier in October, security forces claimed to have killed a commander of the militant Islamic State (IS) group in a raid in Mastung district. According to the CTD spokesperson, security forces conducted a raid after receiving information about the terrorist’s presence.
During an operation in the district’s Killi Mehrab area, the ISIS commander identified as Mumtaz Ahmed aka Pehalwan was killed The provincial government had announced a bounty of Rs200,000 for him.
He was allegedly the mastermind of a 2018 election meeting bombing that killed over 150 people, including former Balochistan chief minister Aslam Raisani’s brother Siraj Raisani, and injured hundreds in Mastung district of Balochistan. Around 154 people were killed and more than 200 injured on July 13, 2018, in a suicide blast targeting the election rally in Mastung.
