KARACHI: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police on Tuesday apprehended two alleged terrorists belonging to a proscribed outfit.
The law enforcement agency conducted an operation in Korangi and arrested two suspects belonging to the outlawed Sipah-e-Muhammad and recovered weapons from their possession.
According to the CTD, the suspects were identified as Kamran Haider and Karrar Hussain and were involved in a wide range of terrorism and sectarian killings. The suspects have confessed to the killing of renowned religious scholars Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai and Maulana Yusuf Ludhianvi.
The suspect Karrar Hussain killed several people in a firing incident in 2001 on Kashmir Roads. He also confessed to killing a man named Jamaat Ismali leader Wasif Aziz in 2007.
CTD authorities the suspects also killed a man identified as Mudassir in Shah Faisal Colony on the orders of Agha Hasan. They killed a man named Essa in Defence and also had a role in killing a scholar hailing from Balochistan in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The CTD claimed that the suspects were involved in sectarian killings since 1996 and opened fire on a vehicle in SITE area, killing seven people. They were also involved in killing a burger seller and two brothers in Khokrapar in 2014.
The group was well trained and had expertise in using weapons, explosive material, and an anti-aircraft gun. CTD officials said that further investigation is underway.
