Criminals use 18 fake social media accounts for crimes: Police

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police on Saturday disclosed that 18 fake social media accounts were operating for crimes in the city.

According to Rawalpindi police report, fake social media accounts, including Triple Three, Triple Two and Tiger Gang threaten people, rob them and involved in several other heinous crimes.

In the report, the police officials said that on average there are 35 to 40 members in each gang. The largest group is the Triple Three gang which has almost 250 members.

The report further stated members are between the ages of 18 and 25 and do not have any previous criminal record and most of them linked from educated families.

Police claimed in the report that they have arrested 30 people associated with the gangs; however, the network keeps growing, reported told. Last December, the leader of the Triple Three, Taji Khokhar, and 25 other gang members were arrested, adding that all of them released on bail.

It further stated that the police have initiated operations to arrest the online gangsters. Police have been conducting 24-hour surveillance from the Police Line control room.
