LAHORE: Lahore Traffic Police on Tuesday launched a crackdown on motorcyclists riding without helmets in the city.
The crackdown was launched after the announcement from the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, Amara Athar.
CTO Ammara Akhtar, in a press conference, highlighted the positive impact of the helmet enforcement campaign, noting a significant reduction in fatal accidents. She reported that 2.27 million motorcyclists had violated helmet laws this year. Furthermore, she mentioned a decrease in the fatality rate from 484 in 2022 to 387 this year.
Ammara Akhtar said that the helmet enforcement campaign played a crucial role in reducing the burden on hospitals. She commended the fact that 90 per cent of citizens are now wearing helmets but stressed the need for even stricter enforcement of helmet laws.
She disclosed that corrective actions were also taken against police officers found riding without helmets or lacking proper licenses.
