ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported over 4,000 cases and 88 from COVID-19 on Saturday, as the government expands the vaccination programme to protect against the virus.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported another 4,007 cases and 88 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 897,468 while the death toll stands at 20,177.
The number of active cases has reached 62,238 while there are 4,412 people remain in critical condition. There were 62,238 tests conducted in the past day, while the positivity ratio was 6.43%. Overall 813,855 people have recovered from the virus, including 3,712 in the past day.
Punjab remains the most affected region although Sindh has witnessed a sharp rise in cases since the past few days. Punjab has recorded 333,057 cases and 9,738 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province stands has reduced to 25,522.
Sindh has recorded 292,644 cases and 4,742 deaths while the number of active cases in the province has increased to 21,649. Islamabad has recorded 80,159 cases and 744 deaths while there are 7,696 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of coronavirus cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 129,013 and 3,900 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 24,413 cases and 270 deaths.
Meanwhile, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has started COVID-19 vaccination of citizens aged 30 and above from today. On May 16, the government opened up vaccine registration for citizens aged 30 and above and started issued messages from Friday.
According to NCOC, more than 2.63 million people have been partially vaccinated including 176,907 in the past day. There are 1.19 million who have been fully vaccinated including 34,568 in the previous day. Over 4.95 million doses have been administered so far across the country.
