MIRPUR: A lockdown has been imposed in Mirpur district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for one week after an alarming increase in coronavirus cases.
According to an order issued by deputy commissioner Mirpur, all educational institutions and public transport will remain closed for two weeks and other religious, political, social and sports activities have been banned.
Marriage halls and public gatherings have been banned for one month, he said. All grocery stores, bakeries, meat, fruit and vegetable shops, and LPG cylinder shops will be allowed business from 8AM to 4PM twice a week on Tuesday and Friday.
Medical stores, hospitals and petrol pumps will remain open in Mirpur Azad Kashmir. All marriage halls, parks and recreation centres will remain closed for one month. No hotel would host a wedding party while wedding ceremonies in homes will not be allowed to host more than 25 guests.
Furthermore, only 50 persons are allowed to attend funerals in the district. Magistrates have been appointed to enforce the lockdown orders in the district.
According to National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), there have been 10,243 confirmed cases for coronavirus AJK while 301 people have succumbed to the contagion. There are 714 active cases while 9.228 people have recovered from the disease.
