KARACHI: The number of COVID-19 cases has surged to 7,516 in Pakistan while the pandemic has claimed 143 lives.
According to the National Command and Control Center, more than 465 new cases of coronavirus were reported while eight people died to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 1,832 patients have recovered from the disease; however, the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
The total count of COVID-19 cases includes 3,410 patients in Punjab, 2,217 in Sindh, 1,077 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 250 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), 351 in Balochistan, 163 in Islamabad, and 48 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The total number of fatalities due to the deadly virus stands at 37 in Punjab, 50 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 47 in Sindh, 05 in Balochistan, 03 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 01 in Islamabad.
Moreover, the federal government had extended the lockdown across the country till 28th April for containing the pandemic. Pakistan first closed all education institutes and suspended public gatherings on 13th March, about two weeks after the first coronavirus case was reported in the country.
Since then, the government has taken numerous measures, including tracing and testing suspected cases, the establishment of large quarantine centers and partial lockdown of cities across the country.
