KARACHI: The confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in Pakistan have surged past 20,186 after several new cases were reported across the country.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 1,083 cases of coronavirus were reported while 22 people died due to the disease in the last 24 hours. So far, the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 462 people.
As many as 5,590 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
The number of patients swelled to 7,524 in Punjab, the most affected region in Pakistan. A partial lockdown has been imposed across the province to stem the spread of the infection.
The cases of infection have surged to 7,465 in Sindh. In Balochistan, there are 1,218 confirmed cases while 176 patients have recuperated from the infection so far.
The confirmed cases have surged to 3,129 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There are 364 coronavirus cases in Gilgit-Baltistan and a total of 71 cases reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir while 415 were reported in Islamabad.
The total number of fatalities due to the deadly virus stands at 180 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 124 in Punjab, 120 in Sindh, 21 in Balochistan, 03 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 04 in Islamabad. As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
