ISLAMABAD: An underpass on the Islamabad Expressway is under construction despite the passage of over one-and-half years, causing immense hardships to commuters.
The locals who regularly commute from Rawalpindi to Islamabad have to take long alternate routes, while those moving from the federal capital are stuck in long queues. During rush hours, many commuters including women and elderly have to endure immense difficulty.
Sources revealed that the contractor for the underpass wants to delay construction to increase the cost of the project. When asked about the expected date of completion, a civil engineer said the underpass should have been completed within six months but has been delayed by over 1.5 years. He said no action has been taken against the contractor leading wastage of funds.
Residents have urged the Punjab Local Government Minister to instruct relevant authorities to ensure the underpass is completed at its earliest.
