KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced on Wednesday that CNG stations in Sindh and Balochistan will be closed for three days.
The stations will reopen at 8 am on Saturday, January 2. SSGC has cited low gas pressure and an increase in demand as the reasons for the suspension of gas supply to the CNG stations.
SSGC spokesperson said due to inclement cold, the line-pack has conceded the effect and thus it was difficult to meet the supply requirement to domestic and industrial consumers.
The CNG association of Pakistan further noted that stations that have converted to RLNG shall also remain closed in the period. Due to the ongoing gas supply crisis, the utility distributor said it cannot continue CNG supply from December 30 till January 2.
There is an acute gas crisis across Pakistan as winters get harsher. Gas supply to stations is being suspended in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and to make matters worse.
The government has decided to close down gas supply to export industry once a week if an emergency-like situation emerges in January regarding the availability of gas. The Petroleum Division is likely to approve the proposal from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
