ISLAMABAD : Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Atta Bandial on Thursday recommended four names for the appointment of High Court judges to the Supreme Court, a private TV channel reported.
The Chief Justice has called a meeting of the Judicial Commission on October 24 (Monday) to appoint new judges in the Supreme Court.
Among the names suggested by the Chief Justice are Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minullah, Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Waheed, Sindh High Court (SHC) Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Shafi Siddiqui are included, the report added.
Four offices of Supreme Court judges fell vacant after the retirement of Justice Mushir Alam, former chief justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel.
In June, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan failed to reach a consensus on the appointment of seven judges in the Sindh High Court (SHC), said sources.
