ISLAMABAD: Members of Civil Society Anjuman-e-Tajiran have staged a protest in front of the National Press Club today (Monday) against the occupation mafia of the federal capital.
According to details, the demonstrators chanted slogans against the local political workers as they accused them of backing the mafia.
The protestors strongly criticized the failure of the Ministry of Housing and Works, the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) and Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) for their failure to take on land mafia.
Talking to M.M News, a member of the Civil Society, Raja Shahid, said, “If land mafia is so powerful right here in the federal capital, imagine what would be the things like in the rest of the country.”
“We are simply shocked and speechless-to learn about the lengths this powerful land mafia can go to get the things done. Even the government is helpless or it is complicit as far as the unabated highhandedness of the land mafia is concerned,” he added.
Raja Shahid warned that if the land mafia again tried to occupy any land, the protest would be extended to Bhari Kahu Road, Expressway and all adjoining highways.
A victim, while talking to M.M News, said, “Armed land grabbers tried to occupy my land, within the limits of Bhara Kahu police station, a few days ago.”
The land grabbers also resorted to firing but the police failed to stop them and refused to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused.
The demonstrators have appealed to the higher authorities to take strict action against the land mafia and government officials who helped make fake land claim papers.
