MULTAN: Terming the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Lahore gathering a failed show, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has asserted that masses have rejected the narrative of the opposition’s alliance.
Talking to the people of constituencies NA-156 and NA-157 in Multan, FM Qureshi said that the opposition’s public meetings amid COVID-19 pandemic were not only playing with people’s lives but also damaging the country’s economy.
“After 70 years, the country got honest leadership in the shape of Prime Minister Imran Khan, however, the opposition does not want the progress of the country,” the foreing minister remarked.
He maintained that the opposition cannot deceive the masses on the pretext of hollow slogans and democracy. “People have rejected the leadership of the 11 opposition parties and gave their verdict in support of the PTI-led government,” he added.
The foreign minister also said that the government was not afraid of opposition public meetings. “We have already urged the opposition to postpone political gatherings in order to save people from the pandemic,” he reiterated.
The opposition, under the banner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), held its final showdown at Lahore’s Minar-i-Pakistan today (Sunday) to oust the PTI-led federal government.
According to details, PDM leaders including JUI-F Cheif Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari delivered fiery speeches.
The 11-party alliance announced a ‘long march’ to Islamabad as the second phase of its anti-government campaign. No definite date has been provided, however, Fazlur Rehman put the timeframe at late January-early February.
