The Chinese embassy in Pakistan has urged its citizens to reconsider travel plans to the country after a recent deadly attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport killed two Chinese workers and injured several others.
In a statement issued Monday, the embassy advised Chinese nationals to avoid traveling to Balochistan in the southwest and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the northwest, as both regions have seen an increase in attacks targeting Chinese citizens and projects.
The recent attack occurred around 11 p.m. local time on Sunday, when a convoy of Chinese engineers and investors was struck by a vehicle-borne explosive device. This marks another attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi, following a suicide bombing in April 2022 in which the same militant group killed three Chinese academics and their local driver.
According to a report from a Hong Kong-based newspaper known for its in-depth Asia-Pacific coverage, Beijing has called on Islamabad to “severely punish” the perpetrators and to “plug security loopholes” to ensure the safety of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and Chinese citizens.
