KARACHI: Retailers have raised the prices of chicken beyond the reach of many people as broiler chicken meat is listed at only Rs 214 per kg in the price list issued by Commissioner Karachi while it is being sold at Rs 400 to 450 per kg during Eid holidays.
According to sources, fake price lists of edible items are circulating in several markets of Karachi, through which citizens are facing rising inflation.
Source disclosed that many city administration officers have several poultry farms in Sindh. “That why the concerned officials could not take any action against retailers involved in price hike.” Sources added.
Sources further said with the connivance of Karachi administration, milk is also being sold at Rs 110 per kg instead of Rs 94 per kg as government prescribe rate.
The government has remained focused towards dealing with the opening of different trades and finalising standard operating procedures (SOPs) for various industries since the start of lockdown.
However, with or without price list, stakeholders had continued to challenge the government’s writ in selling products on their own terms.
Due to the concerned official’s negligence, there is literally no fear among shopkeepers, wholesalers and product manufacturers to face any strict action like heavy fines or imprisonment against price hike, the sources added.
