OpenAI’s ChatGPT is back online after a five-hour global outage. In a post on X, OpenAI confirmed, “ChatGPT, API, and Sora were down today but we’ve recovered.”
According to a report by Mint on Thursday, the disruption affected millions of users worldwide, preventing access to the chatbot. OpenAI had earlier acknowledged the issue on social media, stating, “We’re experiencing an outage right now.”
Last month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologized on X after ChatGPT experienced a 30-minute downtime. According to outage tracking site Downdetector, more than 19,000 users were impacted by the disruption. Altman acknowledged the issue, emphasizing that while the company’s reliability had improved, there was still work to be done.
Earlier on Wednesday, Apple released significant updates to its AI features, integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT into native applications, including Siri, on the iPhone. In a major shift, Apple partnered with OpenAI to embed ChatGPT into its writing tools and virtual assistant, offering users seamless access to the AI chatbot within Apple’s ecosystem.
