KARACHI: A case has been registered with Docks Police station into the killing of 2 telecom workers, who were lynched yesterday after being rumored as kidnappers, in Machar Colony area of the Metropolis. The victims were identified as engineer Aiman Javed and driver Ishaq.
The case 2022/602 under Sections 147, 148, 149, 302, 427, 435 and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act has been registered while some 15 accused have been nominated in the First Information Report (FIR). Police said some 34 suspects were taken into custody, of which 3 had been arrested.
The incident happened yesterday when two employees of the telecom company were attacked and tortured by a mob after being labeled as kidnappers, They had gone to the area to check the signals of the cellular network in the neighborhood of Machar Colony with their laptop and a car.
Responding to media queries, SSP Kemari Fida Hussain Janwari said Machar Colony is a backward area of the city and the enraged mob attacked the employees of the telecom company on the rumors that dacoits have landed in the area to kidnap children.
He said the main accused involved in the incident was identified as Abdul Ghafoor. After receiving the body of Ayman Javed, the telecom company engineer who died in the incident, the family left for their native Thatta, where the deceased was buried in the native cemetery.
