ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi on Tuesday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the notification declaring her Banigala residence a sub-jail and pleaded that she be moved to Adiala Jail.
Following her 14-year conviction in the Toshakhana case and her incarceration at Banigala, Bushra filed a petition requesting the annulment of the state’s January 31 notification that Imran’s apartment would become a sub-prison for her, per the jail superintendent’s request.
The inspector general (IG) of Punjab prisons, the superintendent of Adiala jail, the chief commissioner of Islamabad, and the state were all cited as respondents in the petition.
Moreover, the former first lady said she does not feel safe to be confined alone in the premises of the sub-jail due to the potential security issues.
“While the petitioner is in good health currently, however, there has been a movement of unidentified people in her house declared as a sub-jail by the Government thereby contributing to her sense of insecurity,” she claimed.
According to Bushra Bibi, the “special treatment” she received was discriminatory and went against the spirit of equality protected by the Constitution.
The petitioner begged the court to overturn the notice designating her residence as a sub-jail and transfer her to Adiala Jail in the “Interest of Justice” in light of the previously mentioned grounds.
