Cleveland got revenge at FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday night as it picked up a huge 29-17 win against the Steelers in Week 3 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
After trailing 14-13 at halftime, Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett managed Cleveland’s offense led by running back Nick Chubb and wide receiver Amari Cooper to 16 second-half points to lift the Browns to a 29-17 win.
Myles Garrett and the Browns defense held Pittsburgh to just three points in the second half to give the Steelers their second straight loss.
The Browns overtook the Steelers in the second half and steadily increased their lead in the fourth quarter thanks to some strong runs by RB Nick Chubb and accurate passes from QB Jacoby Brissett. Additionally, the defense improved, stopping the Steelers for three points in the second half after a disastrous first half in which they gave up two touchdowns. At one point in the second half, they stopped Pittsburgh to three straight three-and-out drives, and they stringed together two late-game stops to secure the victory.
After suffering a difficult Week 2 loss to the Jets four days prior, the Browns desperately needed the victory.
They now lead the AFC North after a 2-1 record.
Moment of the game
RB Nick Chubb broke through the Steelers defense for a 1-yard score with little under ten minutes remaining thanks to some strong blocks from starting G Joel Bitonio and backup G Hjalte Froholdt, who was lined up as a fullback on the play. The Browns’ 23-14 victory gave them a comfortable lead that the defense held onto, making up for their lackluster fourth-quarter effort in Week 2.
Player of the game
Brissett, who has contributed significantly to the offence over the past two weeks and is deserving of high credit. He completed 21 of his 31 pass attempts for 220 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions against the Steelers, building on his 229-yard passing performance and contribution to the Browns scoring 30 points in Week 2. Thursday was Brissett’s greatest effort to far, and he has done an excellent job of managing the offence and getting the ball to Cleveland’s best playmakers.
