KARACHI: A boy was killed while another injured in a firing incident in Karachi’s Keamari areas in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to the police sources, armed motorcyclists opened fire at the car of a bridegroom near Massan Chowrangi. As a result, an 11-year-old boy suffered severe bullet injuries and died on the spot while the bridegroom sustained injuries.
Police said the bridegroom was returning home with his wedding procession (barat) from Malir when his car was shot at. The police said the incident appears to be a result of personal enmity. The culprit fled the spot and an investigation into the matter has been launched, they added.
Police said the accused is a relative of the bride who fired at the vehicle out of personal resentment. The groom’s father has demanded the Sindh Chief Minister to take notice of the incident.
Earlier, a man and a woman lost their lives as unidentified gunmen riding motorbikes opened fire at them in Karachi’s Clifton, the police said on February 13.
According to details, the incident took place near the Boat Basin food street. “The man killed was identified as Adnan, a resident of the Hijrat Colony,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South informed.
Rescue officials have shifted the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate and Medical Centre for their post-mortem examination. Immediately after the incident, the police and Rangers reached the site and cordoned off the area.
Eyewitnesses had informed that the victims were sitting in a car when they were shot. A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against unidentified persons and further investigations are underway.
