The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai has developed a plan to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.
Major-General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director-General of the GDRFA, stated that the directorate has finalized several initiatives to handle residency applications, apprehend residency law violators, and catch infiltrators.
However, Colonel Khalifa Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director-General for the follow-up of law violators, did not provide specific details about the plan or its implementation mechanism. During a press conference on Wednesday, he revealed that 4,935 illegal residents had been arrested in Dubai as of August this year, following 181 crackdowns.
Colonel Al Ghaith also noted that there were 91 crime reports involving employees, 271 lawsuits against employees working for unauthorized employers, 117 cases of illegal stay, 116 cases of document forgery, and 74 cases where employers refused to release employees to work for other employers.
Additionally, 584 employees were reported as absconding, 368 complaints were filed regarding residence visa cancellations, and 332 complaints were related to end-of-service benefits. The Documents Inspection Centre reviewed 26,384 documents and seized 605 forged passports.
The directorate also held 55 training courses attended by 745 people. Of the 1,830 disputes reviewed by the Legal Affairs and Complaints section, 1,522 were resolved.
Maj-Gen Al Marri praised the efforts of the department’s staff in tracking down law violators and encouraged all sections of the directorate to work collaboratively to ensure high-quality service delivery.
