A Quran recitation and prayer ceremony was organized by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) District East to mark the 73rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
The event was held at the Peoples Secretariat in Karachi and was attended by PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi and PPP Karachi Division General Secretary Raoof Ahmed Nagori.
Among those present were PPP District East Senior Vice President Sarwar Khan Ghazi, General Secretary Riaz Baloch, Khalid Latif, Farrukh Niaz Tanoli, Sindh Chief Minister’s Spokesperson Syeda Aqra Fatima, Tahseen Abidi, Town Chairman Farhan Ghani, Lala Abdul Rahim, Muzammil Qureshi, Hakim Jiskani, Yasmeen Butt, Hussam Shamsi, Murtaza Baloch, as well as office-bearers, workers, women members, and representatives of city areas and subsidiary wings.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Waqar Mehdi highlighted Benazir Bhutto’s political and personal life, her struggle for the restoration of democracy, and the challenges she faced during periods of military rule.
He said that Benazir Bhutto was not only Pakistan’s first female prime minister but also the first woman prime minister in the Muslim world, who made enduring sacrifices for democracy, public rights, and national unity.
He said that June 21 is the longest day of the year according to the calendar and said the date holds even greater historical significance because it marks the birth of a great public leader.
He added that Benazir Bhutto’s ideology, struggle, and commitment to public service continue to inspire PPP workers.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the martyrs of democracy, and for the peace, prosperity, and development of Pakistan and its people.
