FC Barcelona, after its embarrassing knockout in the Champions League group stage, is keen to sign Lionel Messi whose contract set to expire at the end of the season, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.
President Joan Laporta announced earlier that he had a plan with Lionel Messi. Although, Messi’s contract will expire at the end of the season, but Barca doesn’t not want to wait until the summer. The Catalan club’s goal is to bring him back in January.
Sport point out that this won’t be an easy task for Barcelona because PSG is not willing to sell him to any team and it doesn’t even want to enter into talks with the Catalans given their poor relationship.
President Joan Laporta apparently hopes to do this by making a big statement during the winter transfer window.
In the summer of 2021, the Argentina international left Barcelona and switched to Ligue 1 team Paris Saint-Germain.
“Leo’s era did not end the way we all wanted it to,” Laporta told the media before the Ballon d’Or gala.
“We have a moral debt with him, and we would like the end of his career to be wearing the Barcelona shirt.” he added.
