ISLAMABAD: Four lawmakers of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) on Wednesday submitted a request to the Speaker National Assembly to allot them seats on the opposition benches.
A former ally of Prime Minister Imran Khan, BAP had parted ways with the government a few days back. The party has five MNAs in the National Assembly, however, one of them, Zubaida Jalal had announced to continue supporting the government.
Khalid Magsi, Israr Tareen, Ehsanullah Reiki, and Rubina Irfan have submitted their requests to the Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser to sit on the opposition benches.
The request stated that we as a political party have stopped supporting the PTI government and we do not want to sit on government benches anymore. They also requested the Speaker to allot seats on opposition benches.
It is pertinent to mention here that after BAP another important ally of the federal government MQM-P also parted ways with the government on Wednesday and formally announced it.
The MQM-P has seven seats in the National Assembly and now after its announcement PTI government has lost the majority in National Assembly, while the opposition has gained the required numbers for passing the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
It may be recalled that more than 12 MNAs of PTI have also defected to the joint opposition.
