ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected a contempt petition against Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on the axle load policy reference.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb conducted hearing of the petition.

During the hearing, the judge said that the court administration could delay axle load law.

The incumbent government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) earlier suspended implementation on the National Highway Safety Ordinance, 2000.
The petition seeking contempt proceedings against Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan,” Awan tweeted on 26th October 26, upon instructions of premier Imran Khan to facilitate local traders, FWO has deferred Axle load implementation on M9 Motorway for one year. This decision has been taken on the request of the traders’ community.”

The ordinance has always faced strong lobbying from transporters due to which its implementation was delayed many times.
The ruling party had decided to strictly execute the axel load regime to cause up to a 100 percent increase in freight costs.
