Data Darbar is the largest Sufi shrine in South Asia and a significant spiritual center for millions. It is dedicated to Ali Hujwiri, also known as Data Ganj Baksh, a revered Sufi saint who lived in the 11th century. The shrine’s history dates back to its establishment as a simple grave, which evolved into a grand mausoleum during the Mughal era, especially flourishing in the 19th century under government patronage. The architectural beauty of Data Darbar is characterized by its intricate Mughal designs, marbled courtyards, and towering minarets, attracting not only devotees but also tourists from around the world.
The site serves as a hub for spiritual gatherings, featuring regular Qawwali performances that celebrate Sufi traditions. Additionally, Data Darbar exemplifies community support through its continuous provision of free meals (langar) to visitors, reinforcing values of equality and compassion within society.
